Why not try Linux on a mac?
Well as I was perusing a website one day, I decided to try it. However, it was a challenge with the imac. I used a blueberry 400MHz with a dvd drive, that was functioning really well. At first I tried the PC distrobution that was not clearly marked, obviously that was no good.
Next i was able to find a mac distrobutio of 6.10 ubuntu. i was albe to boot into it and get into the boot screen, but after that it went completely blank. After about 10 tries and maybe 3 classes I was getting very frustrated. However, I was able to find help on teh ubuntu forums. I found out that I had t fix the shell, and play with the monitor settings. I was eventually able to get into the actual OS and browse the web and stuff. However, I was unable to install it due to a problem with the distrobution. It also turns out that the only known version that was able to work on the imac has gone out of phase and i was unable dto find it anywhere.
After awhile I was able to find help on the linux forum and I was directed to another source that had a direct install. I was albe to put it on the graphite iMac, and later a G4 tower. I'm still in the "messing around" stage. I just like to surf the interenet with it so far, some of the other programs are kind of clunky, such as the media player. The distrobution that I used was 6.06 that I got off of the website. It's pretty interesting and best of all it was free.
I also tried many different disks and often reburned them, btu working with the imac was a huge problem for me. It wsa kind of tedious, but then I decided to move on for a lack of an actual project.
Also during this time i was also able to help Jeremiah a lot with his own project of the board computer, but it ended up getting fried due to someone touching it while it was running.
